The Exchange Student – Chapter 14

Anna sighed, uncovering her face slowly to look down at herself, at the baby diapers staring up at her mockingly. Maybe, she told herself, if somebody was looking out their windows and saw her, they’d assume she was an actual toddler, dressed this way, so long as they didn’t spend too long outside… And, if she was with Karissa, then they wouldn’t have any reason to be concerned.

“Y-You really think they’ll be eating?” she asked quietly.

Karissa hesitated, which was not exactly a good sign. “I don’t know,” she confessed. “I think there’s a decent chance of it, though.”

“A decent chance, huh?” Anna fidgeted. Was that the best she was going to get? It seemed like it at this point. “Okay,” she decided, nodding her head, resigning herself to whatever happened. “Let’s go in the front door.”

“All right,” Karissa replied, sounding a bit surprised. “If you’re sure.”

Anna rolled her eyes. “No, of course I’m not!” she exclaimed. “But we can’t sit out here all day, and it might be the best option? I don’t know!”

“Okay, okay,” Karissa reached over, rubbing her back. “It’s going to be fine no matter what happens, Anna. I’ll be there with you.”

“I-I know,” Anna sniffed, looking up at her. Was this what it felt like to have a big sister? She felt a little guilty, certain she’d never made Max feel this safe, this protected… He had just moved in not that long ago, sure; she’d just arrived here today, mere hours ago, and already Karissa was being a better older sibling than Anna ever had been. To be fair, though, she’d had practice.

Anna took a deep breath, nodded. “Let’s go,” she announced, wanting to get it over with before she lost her nerve. Karissa opened up her car door and got out, Anna waiting and watching as she started to walk around the car, not following suit until Karissa was most of the way there, peering back curiously when she hadn’t heard Anna’s door, probably wondering if Anna had changed her mind. Anna hopped out of the car, pushing the door closed and scrambling over to Karissa, huddling behind her. It wasn’t perfect, obviously… If any of Karissa’s family was looking out the window, it would block their view, but not that of any neighbors doing the same. It did help a bit, however.

“You’ve got this,” Karissa promised as she paused for at the front door, the moment of truth.

“I-I hope so,” Anna told her. It definitely didn’t feel that way, though, as Karissa opened up the door, Anna’s heart pounding as she hid behind her new friend, feeling a spurt of warmth in her diaper from her fear as she waited to see who would be on the other side…

Thankfully for her, if not her Pampers, it was nobody. Karissa had been right after all, it seemed. Anna let out a breath she’d barely noticed she was holding, a huge weight lifting off her shoulders when she stepped inside, Karissa closing the door behind them.

“Is that you, girls?” her mother called. “We’re eating!”

“We’ll be there in a second!” Karissa answered, taking Anna by the hand, leading her to their room.

“Thank you!” Anna blurted out, giving her a hug.

“I just brought you inside,” Karissa chuckled. “It’s no big deal.” She did hug Anna back anyway, then, as they broke apart, didn’t quite manage to hide a smirk. “Do you need a change again already, you little fountain?”

Anna blushed, tugging at the hem of her shirt. She should have known an experienced babysitter like Karissa would notice. “N-No,” she shook her head. “I-It wasn’t that big an accident… Was it?”

She had to look down to confirm, giving the padding a poke, which really did make her feel like her story was true, like she needed these diapers, hardly was able to tell when she’d used them, much less how much… Like maybe she actually did belong in kindergarten, not her senior year at high school.

It didn’t help that Karissa knelt down, giving her diaper a check as well. “Hmm, I suppose not,” she declared. “I guess you’re used to being at least a little wet most of the time, huh?”

Anna nodded, head a bit fuzzy with pleasant embarrassment at the implication, even if she knew it would make sense, if she really was incontinent as she claimed. “U-Usually…”

“Well, that just means I’ll have to check you often to be sure you don’t leak like you did on the plane,” Karissa winked, the words making Anna feel as if she were getting even smaller, even younger. There was a part of her that wanted to insist she didn’t need it, that she was a big girl, while another, louder, part told her to be quiet, to accept it. There was something so sweet, so innocent, so infantile about that…

“I-I’d hate to get anything in your nice room wet,” she blushed, bashfully digging through her suitcase to grab another pair of shorts. She half expected Karissa to take them from her, help her into them, but she wasn’t too disappointed when the girl merely watched her step in and pull them up over her diaper. She was about to go face the rest of the family, after all, so she didn’t want to slip into total little-space mode.

“Sorry, girls,” Mrs. Florez said as the pair made their way into the dining room. “Aidan was hungry.”

“N-No, it’s fine,” Anna assured her, struggling to remind herself that she was an adult, and needed to act like one, no matter how she felt, toddling along with a soggy diaper beneath her shorts. “Th-Thank you for the food.”

“Oh, that’s very polite of you, but you don’t have to thank me for that, dear,” Mrs. Florez smiled. “As long as you’re under my roof, I’m going to take care of you.”

She meant that in more ways than just feeding her, or refusing to let her do the dishes when she offered. She tapped on Karissa’s door a little while after supper, poking her head in after Karissa called for her to come in. “Are you girls getting ready for bed?”

“In a bit,” Karissa told her.

“What about you, Anna?” Mrs. Florez asked. “Are you tired?”

Anna glanced nervously over at Karissa. “In a bit,” she repeated her friend’s words.

“Don’t make her stay up too late,” Mrs. Florez admonished Karissa. “She’s had a long day.”

“No, I’m fine!” Anna promised.

“Are you?” Mrs. Florez raised an eyebrow, stepping in and closing the door. “Why don’t you let me see?”

It took Anna a moment to process what she was asking, her cheeks lighting up as soon as she did. “I-I’m okay,” Anna told her shyly, playing with the hem of her shirt.

“Anna,” Mrs. Florez smiled, her tone sounding very much like she was talking to a toddler, rather than a young adult. “Let me see…”

Obediently, Anna slid down off her bed, shuffling over, letting her host mother unbutton her shorts. “Oh, my goodness!” she beamed as soon as she saw the Pamper underneath. “Look at these! These are exactly the same as the ones Aidan wore, aren’t they?”

“Yeah, I guess,” Karissa shrugged. “Leave her alone, mom, you’re embarrassing her.”

“Oh, she’s fine,” Mrs. Florez waved her off. “And wet, aren’t you?”

“She’s not that wet,” Karissa replied defensively. Anna squirmed, blushing, listening to the two of them arguing over her. She wanted to take responsibility… But Mrs. Florez had basically already told her she wasn’t allowed to change herself, so it really was on the two of them to do it for her.

“She is if she’s about to go to bed!” Mrs. Florez pointed out. “I’ll take care of it. I found something for her anyway. Come on, Anna.” She held out her hand, Anna looking at Karissa for a moment before taking it, letting herself be led back to the master bedroom, and then the attached bathroom.

“You didn’t have any messy accidents today, did you?” Mrs. Florez asked her. Anna shook her head, fidgeting, having almost forgotten that she’d told the woman that happened from time to time. “Good girl!” Mrs. Florez praised her, making her blush all the harder at that being seen as an accomplishment. “But did you go poopy at all?”

Anna wasn’t sure if she was doing it on purpose, or if that was just how she was used to saying it, at least while speaking to someone in diapers; either way, the phrasing really made her feel like a little kid, standing in front of her like this, squishy Pampers beneath her shorts. “N-No,” she admitted.

“You don’t have to be afraid,” Mrs. Florez chuckled. “I’m not mad… I don’t want you to get constipated or anything, though. Why don’t you try to use the potty before bed?”

“Okay,” Anna nodded. “I will.”

“Good girl,” Mrs. Florez smiled, bending over, starting to unbutton Anna’s shorts once more.

“W-Wait, what..?” Anna blinked, trying to squirm away in confusion. “I-I’ll try later…”

“But I’m about to put you in your nighttime diaper now, sweetie,” Mrs. Florez informed her. “You have to do it now.”

Anna’s face turned bright red, eyes flicking over towards the toilet. “R-Right now?” She didn’t feel like she had to go that badly, and she wasn’t certain if the woman planned on leaving, or if she was going to stay and watch… She almost definitely wouldn’t be able to do it in that case! That would be way too humiliating…

“I know you took a nap,” Mrs. Florez brushed a strand of hair out of Anna’s eyes, “but you need your rest. I know traveling can make people constipated sometimes…”

“Y-Yeah,” Anna agreed, jumping on that as a way out of this embarrassing conversation. “I-I think…”

“It’s important to get things back to normal as soon as possible after that,” Mrs. Florez said. “I have some things that could help you out, if you need.”

“O-Oh, I-I’m not sure…” Anna shook her head, but she was worried she’d backed herself into a corner. She’d already confessed that she hadn’t gone yet today… If she said no to these now, and then couldn’t use the toilet regularly, would Mrs. Florez use something to help her along anyway? What if that still wasn’t enough in the moment, and she wound up going in her diaper once she was back in Karissa’s room?! She was curious to try that, though maybe not so soon… And maybe not potentially in the middle of the night, when it might look like she had more than a bed wetting problem…

Even without whatever Mrs. FLorez had in mind, that might happen, she realized. It was true, she hadn’t gone today, and while the need didn’t feel urgent yet, it was possible it might sometime during the night… She wasn’t sure what would happen then, if she’d try to go, to see what it was like, or try to sneak out to the bathroom without waking up Karissa – or, worse, Aidan – on her way to the bathroom to see if she could slide the diaper down without damaging it and use the toilet…

“I think you’ll feel much better if you just get it all out now,” Mrs. Florez cooed at her. “So, sweetie… What do you want to do?”

Anna gulped, trying to decide how she was going to face this last humiliation of a very long day. “Umm… Well…”

What should she do?

Try to use the toilet on her own?

Ask for ‘help’ from Mrs. Florez?

Or see if she can back out of her promise to try to go now at all?

Summer School

Summer School

“Well, Ms. Young,” Mrs. Hughes sighed, shaking her head. “I really didn’t expect to see you again, young lady. Certainly not for this.”

Maddelyn gulped, her heart thumping loudly in her chest as she tugged at the skirt of her school uniform. She was glad she hadn’t destroyed all of hers after all, the way most of her friends had to celebrate graduation. Then again, she also hadn’t graduated, so it hadn’t felt right to join in, not to mention her mother scolding her for so much as considering burning ‘perfectly good’ clothes for no reason, no matter how dorky they looked, and how little chance there was Maddy would ever wear them again, or do anything with them other than leave them stuffed at the back of her closet at her parents’ house forever.

It was so annoying… It wasn’t even her fault, as she’d argued to Mrs. Hughes the last time she’d visited the principal in her office. She was supposed to take the World History class back in freshman year, but all of her friends had been in an art class in the only available time slot for it, so she’d begged her guidance counselor to let her take it the next semester instead. And then both of them had forgotten about it until it was too late, until she was about to graduate and someone had reviewed her transcripts and noticed it was missing.

If anyone, the guidance counselor should be the one going through all this! Maddelyn knew better than to suggest that, however, not again. She already knew she was on Mrs. Hughes’s bad side from their last visit, when she’d told her as much, and, feeling confident from having just turned nineteen and being indisputably an adult now, and anger at being informed she wouldn’t get to graduate with all of her friends, demanded that the woman fix this right away, or else.

That was the only reason she’d gotten into summer school, as that class was already full. Maddelyn had asked, snarkily, last time if that was because the guidance counselor had done the same thing to a bunch of other kids, and gotten no answer. She suspected Mrs. Hughes simply didn’t want to put up with her for a full other semester if she made her come back to make up that one class next year, but that was fine with her… She had a college acceptance letter, was going off to the same university as all of her friends. She didn’t want to be a semester late, to have to play catch-up, miss out on all the new in-jokes, risk them finding someone to fill her spot in their group…

But, despite her desire to do so, Maddy knew she couldn’t make another scene here, make more demands of the principal. She was already on thin enough ice that she’d dug one of her uniforms out and wore it to look more proper, like she was taking this seriously. They didn’t have to wear uniforms at summer school, and nobody did; the only people she could imagine would choose to do so were the nerds, and they weren’t likely to need summer school in the first place.

“Well?” Mrs. Hughes sat down, gesturing at another chair, Maddelyn obediently following suit, folding her hands in her lap. “What do you have to say for yourself?”

Maddy swallowed, squirming anxiously. “I-I just want you to know,” she started, “it’s all lies!”

The Exchange Student – Chapter 13

Anna gulped, hardly able to believe what she was about to do. What other choice did she have, though? She didn’t want to see what Kiki would do to her if she was upset, but she also couldn’t betray Karissa, not after everything she’d done for her so far, how nice she’d been… And knowing that there could be worse consequences if she did, considering she had to live with the girl for the next few months.

“I-I’ll go to kindergarten,” she mumbled quietly.

Kiki blinked, taken by surprise. “What?” she demanded, leaning in closer. “What did you say, baby?”

Anna squirmed, wiggling her feet. “I-I said I’ll go to kindergarten,” she repeated.

Kiki’s face scrunched in disappointment, her arms crossing in front of her. “Are you serious?” she sniffed. “I’m not joking, you know…” She pulled her phone out of her purse.

Sweat began to form in Anna’s palms. She had fantasized about a version of this, yes; never would she have dreamed of attempting to go that far back, however. After being put into a Pamper, though, she did feel like perhaps she would fit in, and, as humiliating as it was, as scary as the thought was, leaving the first half of her senior year in the hands of someone she didn’t know, hoping they wouldn’t screw her over by flunking all her classes, there was something exciting about the thought.

“I’m not gonna do any of that to Karissa,” Anna told Kiki, as boldly as she could manage, given where she was, what she was wearing. “So if you want me to go to kindergarten, that’s what I’ll do.”

“Hush,” Kiki held up a finger, pressing her phone to her ear. “Hey, Sara? Yeah, it’s me. I was wondering if you could do me a huge favor… You know how you said you wish you could be back in high school with me? Your job is just in the evenings, right?”

Anna fidgeted, watching Kiki, trying to decipher whether she was bluffing, if she was actually talking to someone else or simply pretending to scare her. She held strong, refusing to give Kiki the satisfaction, at least as much as she could avoid letting her anxiety show on her face.

“No, I mean it,” Kiki giggled. “We’d have so much fun together! And you wouldn’t have to worry about homework or anything, I know someone who could handle that.”

That was meant, Anna assumed, given the look Kiki gave her, to be a threat, but it gave her a modicum of hope. She’d have some amount of control over her grades, still, if she had to do that… Only to a certain degree, however, since Sara would be taking all of the tests, and participating in class, or not, at her discretion.

“And you could just show up when you want,” Kiki said. “If you wanted to take a day or two off a week, it’s no big deal.”

Anna cringed. She hadn’t considered that, not when her own attendance record was nearly spotless. That could get her into trouble, too… Here, it wouldn’t matter as much, but if her mom and Doug heard about it, it might be a problem for her when she got back home, or even get her sent there sooner than she’d anticipated.

“We are going to have so much fun,” Kiki promised. “There’s just one little thing… You will have to go by a different name. You could always say that Sara is your middle name, and that’s what you go by, but the teachers are going to call you Anna at first. It’s a long story.”

There was a knock on the bathroom door, Anna flinching, part of her expecting it to open and expose her to the world before she remembered that Kiki had locked it… Not that being trapped in here with her was a lot better.

“I’ll explain later,” Kiki told Sara. “I gotta run.” She hung up, sliding her phone back into her purse, yelling, “We’re almost done!” at the door.

“Everything all right?” Karissa called back.

Kiki smirked down at Anna. “Mostly,” she replied, before lowering her voice. “Well? This is your last chance to back out. She sounded pretty excited about it, so I’d hate to string her along only to have you change your mind.”

Anna swallowed, shook her head. “No. If it’s between…”

“Fine,” Kiki rolled her eyes. “If you’re not going to be reasonable…” She snatched Anna’s shorts off the changing table, tossing them into the sink.

“Hey!” Anna squealed, rolling over as far as the straps would let her, reaching out, her arms much too short to prevent Kiki from turning the faucet on.

“Oopsie,” Kiki said mockingly. “My bad.”

“That’s not fair!” Anna whined. “I’m already going to kindergarten for you!”

“Somehow,” Kiki ran a finger along the waistband of Anna’s Pampers, “I don’t think that actually bothers you that much.” She unstrapped Anna, helping her down off of the changing table, shoving the shorts into her arms before opening up the bathroom door. Anna blushed, holding the shorts in front of her crotch, though, given the wet spot on them, that wasn’t a huge improvement. She saw the other girls waiting on the other side, bashfully lowering her head, hiding her rapidly reddening face.

“I told you she needed a change,” Kiki told Karissa as she brushed past her. “She leaked all over her shorts. You’re lucky it didn’t happen while she was in your car.”

“Oh, Anna,” Karissa smiled gently, stepping over, giving her a hug while the other girls giggled to one another, Anna wanting to sink into the floor as they all got confirmation of what they’d probably already assumed about her, that the diaper rash cream had, in fact, been for her. “It’s okay, sweetie… Come on, let’s get you back home.”

Anna nodded silently, waddling numbly out of the store, feeling ready to collapse from the humiliation of toddling out of the bathroom, knowing the seat of her Pampers was showing, unsure how to hide both side of it at the same time. She couldn’t manage to speak again until they were out at Karissa’s car, the door open, hiding her, somewhat, from the rest of the parking lot, even though standing outside in a shirt and diaper was, perhaps, the most mortifying thing Anna could imagine.

“I-I didn’t,” she informed Karissa quietly, clinging to her shorts, wanting to set the record straight. She had leaked in front of the girl once today already; she didn’t want her to think this was a normal thing, that it happened this often. “I-It’s water… Kiki…”

“Okay,” Karissa bobbed her head. Anna couldn’t tell for certain if she meant it, or if she was humoring her, although she did take the shorts from her, setting them down in the back seat, without hesitation, which boded well. Only then did it strike Anna that it was the back door of the car that Karissa had opened for her.

“C-Can’t I sit in the front?” she pouted.

It was Karissa’s turn to blush. “I told them I was babysitting you,” she reminded Anna. “So, in case they come out and see us…”

Anna sighed, nodded her understanding. “Okay,” she accepted it, climbing in, letting Karissa buckle her seatbelt. She’d expected to have to sit back there on the way to the convenience store anyway, Anna reminded herself. At least she’d gotten to ride in the front like a big girl for half of the trip.

Karissa closed the door, walked around to the driver’s seat, pulled out of the parking lot and started to head back. “I’m sorry,” she said after a few moments. “I shouldn’t have told them that… None of that would have happened if I’d told them who you really were. I just thought they’d let us get out of there without paying too much attention. And I thought it would be kinda cute, too. I didn’t think…”

“It’s okay,” Anna told her, legs swinging nervously beneath her as she peered out the window, wondering how obvious what she was wearing was to anyone who happened to look back at her from their own car window.

“If we’d gotten out of there right away, I don’t think any of them would have made the connection when they saw you at school, but Kiki…” Karissa shook her head in frustration. “I’m really sorry, Anna. I’ll think of something.”

Anna’s tummy churned. “W-Well… You aren’t going to have to worry about that…”

Karissa frowned into the rearview mirror. “What do you mean?”

Anna blushed, not wanting to get into all of that now. It didn’t seem like there was much that could be done about it at this point, anyway. “I’ll tell you later,” she promised; she’d have to, eventually, though she wasn’t sure how, exactly, she was ever going to find a way to broach the topic, to confess to Karissa that she wasn’t going to be joining her in high school after all… She nibbled her bottom lip, staring down at herself, at the Pamper showing beneath her t-shirt, realizing that might not be so difficult for someone to believe, especially when they’d helped her change her diaper, assuming she was much younger. Even so, she didn’t want to get into it right now. Today had already been long enough as it was…

“All right,” Karissa said with a shrug. “What got Kiki mad at you?”

“Huh?” Anna blinked. Had Karissa overheard their conversation in the bathroom? Or was she that good at reading her so-called friend’s moods, despite Kiki putting on what had looked, to Anna, like a fairly convincing show?

“Your shorts,” Karissa clarified. “You weren’t close to leaking, and they’re soaked.”

“R-Right.” Anna nodded, recalling she’d started to explain in the parking lot, had used Kiki’s name, but no details. “She wanted me to tell the other kids…” Her cheeks darkened as she thought about how that was, indeed, how she was going to be thinking of them soon. The other kids, because she was one of them, just another kindergartner… “Th-The kids,” she corrected herself for now, “that she was a better babysitter than you.”

Karissa rolled her eyes. “She is such a brat. Listen, you can tell her whatever you need to get her to leave you alone, I don’t care. It’s not like you’re going to be spending much time with kids anyway, other than Aidan, and I know he’d rather have Kiki as a sitter than me.”

Anna fidgeted. “Well…”

“For now, though,” Karissa continued, “we’d better decide what we want to do about those shorts.”

“They’ll dry out eventually,” Anna pointed out. “It isn’t that big a deal…”

“Sure,” Karissa agreed. “Eventually. Not before we get back home.”

“O-Oh,” Anna said. “Right…”

“We were at the store longer than I expected,” Karissa told her. “Everyone else might be eating supper already, so maybe we could sneak in the front door and to our room to get you something else to wear… Or they might be waiting for us, and if they’re doing that, they’d probably be in the living room, so we’d be better off sneaking in through the back door, since hopefully they wouldn’t be in the kitchen.”

“But… What if they are?” Anna squirmed. Mrs. Florez was very aware of her diapers, even if she hadn’t seen her in a Pamper… She didn’t want to risk running into Mr. Florez, or, worse yet, Aidan.

Karissa shrugged. “I mean… There’s a chance they’d all find out at some point anyway…” Anna groaned. “We could put you back in your shorts.”

“Then they’ll just think I peed my pants,” Anna pouted. “Not that I wear diapers.”

“Well, yeah,” Karissa said. “That’s maybe a little better?”

“Maybe,” Anna replied, despite her initial reluctance. Probably, they’d assume she’d wet herself if they saw her in Pampers and no shorts anyway… Not even Mrs. Florez would guess that she was in baby diapers now, however. Neither option felt particularly good, honestly.

“I could go get you something and bring it back,” Karissa offered. “It would take me a minute, though, and if anyone saw me come in without you, they might wonder what was going on and come out to check on you… Or if a neighbor saw you sitting there alone…”

“Ugh,” Anna hid her face in her hands. She hadn’t thought about that part, about having to get out of Karissa’s car in the driveway and get to either door, no matter what she was wearing. Karissa’s family was, indeed, pretty likely to discover that she wore diapers, even if she wanted to try to put it off as long as possible… The neighbors, on the other hand, wouldn’t necessarily have to…

“It’s up to you,” Karissa told her. “It would just be best to have a plan of attack before we get there. So, what do you think?”

Should Anna…

Go to the front door in her wet shorts?

Go to the front door in her diaper?

Go to the back door in her wet shorts?

Go to the back door in her diaper?

Or wait in the car for Karissa to bring her something to wear over her diaper?
